Nelsons property and commercial law in Tenterden
Nelsons specialise in non-contentious legal work for both businesses and private clients.
Private client work
The core of our work for private clients is our residential conveyancing service, under which we handle the sale and purchase of freehold and leasehold properties – houses, bungalows and flats. We also handle transfers of equity – where a property is transferred without being a sale "at arm's length" - and extensions of residential leases: most main lenders insist on leases having at least 70 years still to run before they will lend against them.
We operate what we believe is a unique way for our clients to protect against property theft.
Wills
We also advise on and prepare new Wills and amendments to existing Wills and on powers of attorney.
Business clients
If you are setting up or running your own business, we can advise you on how to best structure your business: as a sole trader, partnership, limited company, limited liability partnership or joint venture. Where a company, partnership or joint venture is involved, we can prepare the appropriate documents to protect your and your colleagues' interests:
-
partnership agreements (for limited liability partnerships or "ordinary" ones)
-
shareholders' agreements
-
joint venture agreements
-
guarantees and indemnities
-
etc
New and existing businesses
For both new and existing businesses, we can also advise on (and prepare)
-
terms and conditions of business ("Ts&Cs")
-
commercial contracts
-
bank guarantees
-
company debentures
-
etc
We also handle business acquisitions and disposals, whether by way of sale/purchase of assets or sale/purchase of shares, and the purchase, leasing and sale of business premises of all types.
Why we are special
We advise mainly owner-managers of businesses and people who recognise good service and good value for money and who welcome our straightforward approach. We try to deal with things in as straightforward and simple a way as possible, for instance:
-
We publish our terms of business
-
We normally charge a flat hourly rate (plus VAT and out-of pocket expenses) - there is no "profit uplift" or "value charge" in addition - but we handle some work on a fixed-fee basis
-
As a founder member of CLARITY, Justin is keen that legal documents are written as clearly and simply as possible
-
We will always try to give an estimate of legal expenses at the outset of each transaction, and will keep that estimate updated as the transaction progresses
We look after clients as if they are close friends or family members, in that:
-
We give punchy, practical, jargon-free and actionable help
-
We keep clients' legal difficulties and expenses to a minimum
-
We keep clients fully informed regarding their work
-
We free clients to get on with their businesses and their lives, knowing we are looking after their legal affairs
Guarantee
We give a guarantee.
We think we are
"Simply the best … at what we do"
However, we recognise our limitations. There are areas of legal work - litigation, criminal work, divorce, etc - that we simply do not handle, but we focus on what we do best so that we give the best possible service. Where something is outside our expertise, we can usually put you in touch with a suitable specialist.
