The Potato Shop has been providing the local area with quality potatoes for over 10 years now producing over 600 tons a year on 50 acres of matchless soil of the Rother Valley in Morghew Farm. They are highly acclaimed not only in Tenterden and surrounding areas, but all over the South East, both retail and wholesale; also going to big farmer’s markets as well as Covent Garden, London twice a week, supplying well-known hotels, restaurants (including Michelin and Cordon Bleu), pubs, farm shops and schools. The Potato Shop is something of a national celebrity having made appearances on TV.

Something for everyone

The Potato Shop offers about 20 varieties of potatoes for every budget and every cooking use possible. For the last 5 years they have been specialising in 7 varieties of exotic coloured potatoes. If you live in the area – you are welcome to stop by; our honesty stall is open daily, 8am to 8pm. Customers are always welcome to talk to our friendly staff. The Potato Shop does mail order delivery rounds 3-4 days a week, including ‘pre-prepared’ potatoes - peeled and sealed. That is how restaurants require them and the same can be arranged for individual customers - all you have to do is ask!

You can’t miss it

The Potato Shop is easy to find:  Just go to the western end of Tenterden High Street – also known as the A28 – at the Rolvenden end of the town.  At the traffic lights next to the William Caxton public house, take the B2082 signposted to Rye.  After 1/3 of a mile, you’ll pass a supermarket on your left, and 200 yards further on the right, take a private road marked ‘Morghew’.  Follow this for ¼ of a mile, and after you’ve passed over a second cattle grid, you’ll find the Potato Shop on your right, and please don’t be put off by the large ‘Private’ signs. 

Interesting facts and tips

• In Morghew, the Potatoes are planted in April and harvested in August-September.

• The coloured sorts are better steamed so they fully retain the flavour and don’t lose their colour.

• Add vinegar to potato salad to bring up the flavour.
