Welcome

Licensee of The William Caxton Inn, Tenterden, Debbie Fleet, extends a warm welcome to all regulars and visitors to the pub.

The Pub

This charming, Grade II listed inn is a perfect base from which to explore the delights of the picturesque 'Cinque Port' town of Tenterden, which is known as the Jewel of the Weald. Offering outstanding traditional homemade food, good ales, fine wines and a warm welcome, the William Caxton remains the heart and sole of Tenterden, and the last true Inn in the town. Following a recent refurbishment the Inn retains its historical feeling with its oak beams, wooden floors and open fireplaces and benefits from having a lovely south facing traditional beer garden. A good range of Shepherd Neame ales and a good selection of wine. No matter who you are, you wil always find some friendly banter at the pub.

Beer Garden

The beer garden at the back of the pub is private and enclosed to ensure complete safety for children. Dogs  are most welcome at the pub as Debbie and Marcus recognise that they are part of family life. Regular BBQs for the whole family at Bank Holidays.

Visiting Tenterden and the surrounding area

There can be few more gentile scenes than the historic tree lined Tenterden High Street, with its characterful buildings and host of specialist shops which are just a leisurely walk from The William Caxton Inn. The town is home to The Kent and East Sussex Railway where you can travel in style in one of its beautifully restored carriages through the picturesque Rother Valley to Bodiam Castle. In the surrounding villages you can visit The Rare Breeds Centre at Woodchurch and a wonderful collection of historic houses, gardens and vineyards including Sissinghurst Castle, Great Dixter House and Gardens, Hole Park, Small Hythe Place, Biddenden Vineyards and Chapel Down Winery. For the more sporting traveller the surrounding countryside has plenty to offer too with several quality golf courses, well stocked coarse and game fisheries, riding stables and wonderful walks and cycle trails all on the Inn’s door step. A 15 minute drive south of the town takes you to the historic town of Rye, and the haunting and magical Romney Marsh, or the miles of golden sandy beaches at Camber sands.

Tenterden Folk Club

The Tenterden Folk Club meet at the William Caxton on the second Tuesday of the month. Meet in the bar from around 8.00 pm. The music starts at about 8.30 and continues on to 11.00.  All folk singers, musicians, storytellers and poets are welcome to come along and join in, or you can just come and listen to the music.
