How it started

It started in High Halden - no one remembers when it started, but definitely over 30 years ago – “Once upon a time” is probably the best description.  A circle of friends with a shared passion for walking gathered once a month to explore the area. They took turns creating interesting picturesque circular routes, not too short, not too long, 5 miles at the most.

Exploring the Area

Things changed throughout the years – new members joined, people moved out of the village, retired, but still stayed in touch and once a month met at the village green and went for a nice leisurely-paced walk.  The group retained its original ‘maiden’ name of High Halden, but the routes are no longer confined to High Halden neighbourhood.

Nowadays High Halden walkers come from all over the area - High Halden, Tenterden, Biddenden, Ashford, etc. The members naturally contribute to the itinerary, share their knowledge of the area and come up with their scenic routes – more and more of Weald’s public footpaths are being explored. There are usually up to 20 members in the group – from schoolchildren to senior citizens.
