Superfast Broadband has come to Tenterden

I've just had BT Infinity (superfast broadband) installed today. Engineer said I was No.2 in Tenterden, he asked how I knew about it as they hadn't sent out leaflets around the area yet. Oh well Twitter has its uses. I think they are expecting a flurry of interest ! My speeds are now 64Mb download and 20 upload, so amazing.

You're lucky! I'm getting half that, and what's more, there appears to be no plans to bring Fibre down the Smallhythe Road either 8(

Lucky I guess that the cabinet I am connected to (cabinet 2) is on the A28, perhaps they were the first ones to go live ahead of all the others.

Check your telephone number here:

Some cabinets are not due to be live until next year

We've been waiting patiently for over a month now and we still aren't able to convert to BT Infinity. We are very near the exchange off Oaks Road ...Does anyone have any thoughts/ideas on what this might be? Thanks!

BT have installed FTTP in some areas of Tenterden. FTTP stands for Fibre (optic cable) To The Cabinet. This means that there is a fibre optic cable linking your nearest green cabinet on the street to the local exchange. It does not necessarily mean that the fibre is yet installed in the footpath outside your house.

Furthermore BT will also have to then get the cable from the footpath to your property.

Any one of these reasons could be why your new broadband is being held up and of course you are dealing with BT!

Hope this is of use.

There is a very useful resource at http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search that will give you more information.

FTTP - is Fibre to the Premises - I've no date for that in Tenterden yet.
FTTC - Fibre to the Cabinet is in Tenterden at the moment in some places, and coming to Smallhythe (in theory) next March!

(I'm - amongst many other things - a Telecoms reseller, and that's what my on-line checker says today...)

Mind you, it's notoriously quirky: for example it says that Barclays (46 High St) can have broadband, but Webbs (45) doesn't exist!

Sorry!! First post and first typo! Mike is correct, I should have said FTTC stands for Fibre (optic cable) To The Cabinet
