The Tenterden and District Local History Society

(Founded 25th November 1955)

2016 / 17

The programme for 2016 / 2017 will include seven lectures on Monday evenings. All meetings will be held in the ZION BAPTIST CHURCH, High Street, Tenterden at 7.15 pm for 7.30 pm. There are Public Car Parks to the rear or in Station Road opposite – free after 6pm. There will be two Coffee Mornings in St Mildred’s Church Hall, which will be held on Thursdays. Outings will be arranged in the summer, details of which will be announced later.

Roy Ingleton returns to start the year with his talk about crime and punishment and is followed in October by Maureen Clayton’s talk about civil unrest in England. November brings our AGM (I hope we don’t have any revolutions there!) and our own member Fred Walker puts us in a more restful frame of mind with his fascinating Royal Yachts of Europe. After the Christmas break we hear from Fred Lemont who will tell us all about the Flemish Weavers, and their importance to Tenterden and the Weald. In February, Peter Ewart returns to tell us about Rye, and in March Peter Batty will tell us all about Maidstone ‘a town of firsts’. We finish the year with another good friend of the Society, Imogen Corrigan, who returns to tell us all about the Bayeux Tapestry.
