Refuse Collections and Recycling

A new refuse and recycling service began in Tenterden on 8 July 2013, see www.ashford.gov.uk/waste-and-recycling for more information about:

  • a weekly food waste collection

  • a fortnightly recycling collection, which will now include plastics, cardboard and Tetra Pak cartons, as well as the usual tins, cans, glass, paper, aerosols, foil and textiles

  • a fortnightly non-recyclable household waste collection

  • an optional paid-for fortnightly garden recycling collection

Food waste - weekly

Put food waste into the small indoor 5 litre kitchen caddy. Empty your kitchen caddy into the 23 litre collection caddy when required, which should be placed outside for collection

If you wish to use bags inside your food caddy thay must be compostable bags. Do not use plastic or biodegradable bags. All food waste is composted for agricultural use.

Recycling - Fortnightly

240 litre green wheeled bin. For paper, magazines, cardboard, plastic bottles, tybs, containers, yoghurt  pots, food & drink cartons, plastic meat trays, ready meal trays and fruit/veg punnets, tins & cans, kitchen foil & foil Trays, glass bottles and jars, empty aerosol cans.

Household refuse - Fortnightly

180 litre grey wheeled bin for household rubbish that cannot be recycled. Please do not put extra black sacks at the side of your wheelie bin as they will not be collected.

Textiles and electricals

You can leave out textiles and waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) for kerbside collection on alternate weeks. Place all textiles (recycling day) and electricals (refuse day) in separate tied carrier bag (do not use black sacks or charity bags), place household batteries in a clear bag and leave on top of your closed refuse bin. Electricals must not be larger than 35cm by 40cm

Large electrical items

You can take larger electrical items to the Household Waste Recycling Centre on the Cobbs Wood Industrial Estate or book a bulky waste collection at www.ashford.gov.uk or call 01233 331111

Assisted collections

Ashford Borough Council offers assisted collections to those who need help putting their containers out. Please contact Ashford Borough COUncil to find out if you are eligible on 01233 331111

Large families

Larger wheelie bins are available for families of 6 people and above

Garden Waste

You can register for a fortnightly garden recycling collection. If you sign up, you will received a 240 litre brown wheeled bin and a separate collection calendar. The service is entirely optional so that people who do not have gardens do not have to pay for the service.

You can pay for more than one bin or share one with neighbours. Ashford Borough Council will only collect from properties that have paid for the service.

Garden recycling can also be taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centre on the Cobbs Wood Industrial Estate. Register for garden waste collections at www.ashford.gov.uk/gardenrecycling.
