Tenterden and surrounding areas
Widely regarded as one of the most charming towns in the South
East, Tenterden, and its surrounding villages and countryside, is a fascinating place to visit and explore. With its unique mix of fascinating history and heritage, traditional shopping, family fun, great country activities and events, Tenterden and its surrounding villages have something for everyone.
So whether you are looking for a great day out, a weekend break or a longer stay, no other place offers so much to see and do, whatever the weather or time of year.
The town itself boasts a vibrant High Street and adjoining lanes full of quirky shops, a large leisure centre complete with swimming pool, flume and fitness centre plus a large recreation ground, impressive children’s play areas, tennis courts and bowling green.
Living history
One of the best ways to enjoy the town is to follow the Heritage Trail that takes in the museums, the historic churches, the Elizabethan, Georgian and Victorian buildings and Town Hall – The Heritage Trail leaflet and map can be down loaded from the brochures page. The town is also home to The Kent and East Sussex Railway where you can climb aboard one of its beautifully restored carriages and enjoy a trip through the picturesque Rother Valley to Bodiam Castle.

Family days out
Tenterden is surrounded by some great family attractions such as The Rare Breeds Centre at Woodchurch and the steam trains in Tenterden and their Santa Special trains at Christmas and Thomas the Tank weekends throughout the year. We also have a wonderful collection of historic houses, gardens and vineyards including Sissinghurst Castle, Smallhythe Place, Biddenden Vineyards and Chapel Down Winery and many more.
Sports and Scenery
The surrounding countryside has plenty to offer too with several quality golf courses, well stocked coarse and game fisheries, riding stables and wonderful walks and cycle trails all on the town’s door step.
