Walking

Park, Walk and Ride trails

Tenterden is situated within the beautiful Wealden countryside with spectacular views and stunning vistas. So, it's not surprising that the area is extremely popular with local and visiting walkers and ramblers. To combine two of the area's key assets, Kent and East Sussex Railway and partners including experienced ramblers, have designed a series of walking trails and steam train journeys around the area. The trails have been produced to give walkers easy access to some of the finest walking country in the south of England.

The six 'Park, Walk and Ride' trails have been designed to be easy to follow and to be suitable for both experienced and novice walkers. Routes include a variety of terrain including: waterside, field and woodland paths, bridleways and quiet country lanes. The length of each walk varies between two and six miles, and estimated timings are given for each trail, allowing walkers to decide on a level of difficulty before setting off. The factsheets also include details of facilities along the walk.

Each of the six trails has been designed to make the most of the light railway and the areas surrounding the Kent and East Sussex Railway stations. Each trail has its own detailed factsheet with a map showing where the trail goes, estimated timings and information about the terrain along the walk. You can pick up the free guides from the Kent and East Sussex Railway and from any of its stations at Tenterden, Rolvenden, Wittersham Road, Northiam and Bodiam.

The 'Railtrails' walking guide has been developed by the Kent and East Sussex Railway, in conjunction with the Tenterden Town and Rural Partnership as part of the Tenterden Improved Project, to offer advice and highlight places of interest en route. The Tenterden Improved Project has received funding from the South East of England Development Agency, through the Channel Corridor Partnership, Kent Rural Towns programme and other partners.
