Tenterden Christmas Street Lights

The Tenterden Christmas street lights light up our town for about a month over the Christmas period. The lights are paid for and organised by the Tenterden and District Chamber of Commerce with donations from Ashford Borough Council and Tenterden Town Council.

Tenterden Town Christmas Tree

The Tenterden Town Christmas tree in 2011 was donated to Tenterden by Hole Park Estates and erected by the Rotary Club of Tenterden.

Christmas Trees above the shop fronts

In December 2011 approximately 70 small Christmas trees and lights were put up above the shops along the High Street by the Tenterden & District Chamber of Commerce. This was an increase of nearly 50% over the previous year. Hopefully for all of those who saw the trees you agrees it looked even better than last year. In December 2011 we installed new fixings to replace the old ones which had given the town approximately 20 years service.

Tenterden Town Carol Service

Why the Christmas lights in Tenterden became blue five years ago

Four years ago we started changing the old Christmas festoon lights to more energy saving Christmas lights to save on the cost of electricity. The old Christmas lights used to cost the Town thousands of pounds every year for the electricity alone, whereas the new more efficient energy saving Christmas lights now only cost a fraction of this amount. So whilst the new Christmas lights were initially quite expensive to buy we have managed to save over £10,000 over the last four years.

The old festoon lights were also very delicate and if one bulb broke none of the others on the same circuit would operate.  So we have managed to save on the cost of repairs as well.
