Tentertainment in Tenterden
Friday 2 July - Sunday 4 July 2010

Article submitted by Bill
Tentertainment started on Friday evening. There was still space to sit on the grass, but by 7.30 you were too late to get one of the straw bales outside the beer tent. Officially it finished at 8pm but a couple of hours later loads of people were still there, it was a good atmosphere, very relaxed and easy going. Saturday was hot and sunny, the stage was the focal point for most people. The MC tried to get the crowd excited but we just wanted him to get on with it: we came for the music, and the beer, and to chill out with friends. There were some stalls selling food and other stuff. We bought some saté chicken from the Chinese tent and some curry from the Indian stall, there were pies and burgers, chips and ice cream all for sale. Sunday was quite like Saturday, probably busier as the word spread and the field was nearly full. The weather was hot again and the shady side of the field was jammed with bodies. You could take your own food and drink and entrance was free, so it didn't have to cost you anything. The music was great and everyone was in a good mood. Looking forward to the next one.

50th Anniversary of Osteopathy in Tenterden

You probably don't think twice when you call your osteopath for an appointment. Did you know that it was only 50 years ago that the first osteopath came to Tenterden? Dr Edwin Miller opened his practice in 1959 just off Tenterden High Street and today osteopath John Stevens marked that 50th anniversary with a reception for patients, colleagues and friends at the Coach House Clinic. Dr Miller was one of the first American trained osteopaths to work in England outside of the major cities. John recalled these early days and spoke of the affection that Dr Miller and his contemporaries earned from their grateful patients in a climate of hostility and dismissal from the medical practitioners of the time. Fortunately GP's no longer risk  being struck off for sending patients to the osteopath and today  John and his colleagues continue to provide care for patients at 155 High Street, Tenterden.

Camra Beer Festival in Tenterden
11-12 June 2010

Article submitted by Justin Nelson, Justin Nelson Commercial Solicitor, Tenterden
After several years at the Rare Breeds Centre in Woodchurch, the local branch of CAMRA this year held its annual beer festival at the Kent & East Sussex Railway station in Tenterden for the second year. As in 2009, the venue was perfect – and the weather was excellent, too.

Some 50 beers, plus ciders, were available to sample, including some very local ones - the Red, Blue and Gold Top beers from the Old Dairy Brewery in Rolvenden – as well as beers from various parts of the UK.

On the main day of the festival, Saturday 12 June, I was kept busy serving behind the bar, so was very grateful for the "quiet evening" the day before, when I had the opportunity to try some of the beers in a peaceful, relaxed environment. On the Saturday, the festival was buzzing with crowds, music and food, as well as the beers and ciders.

If you have visited the festival before, you will know what a good day out it makes. If you have not yet been, keep an eye open for the date of the festival next year – probably a Saturday in mid June 2011
